Cyber Essentials, without the guesswork.
Cyber Essentials is the UK government backed scheme that proves your organisation has the basics covered. I get you ready, fix what needs fixing, and see you through to the certificate.
What it covers
The scheme checks five technical controls: firewalls, secure configuration, security update management, user access control and malware protection. Simple on paper, easy to trip over in practice.
Cyber Essentials or Cyber Essentials Plus?
Cyber Essentials is a verified self-assessment. Cyber Essentials Plus adds a hands-on technical audit of your devices and systems. I'll help you choose the right level for your clients and contracts. Read the difference between Cyber Essentials and Plus, and see what each costs.
How I help
- A gap review against the current requirements, in plain English.
- Hands-on fixes to devices, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, and your network.
- Preparing the answers and evidence for your submission.
- Keeping you compliant for renewal, so next year is easy.
Who it's for
Organisations asked for a certificate by a client, insurer or tender, and anyone handling sensitive data who wants proof the basics are right.
Thinking further ahead? Cyber Essentials is a strong first step towards ISO 27001.
Cyber Essentials questions
How much does Cyber Essentials cost?
The certification fee is set by IASME and starts at £320 + VAT for micro organisations, rising with size. On top of that is the work to get ready. See how much Cyber Essentials costs in 2026.
How long does the certificate last?
12 months. It's renewed every year, and keeping things maintained in between makes renewal quick.
What changed in 2026?
Since April 2026, multi-factor authentication is mandatory on cloud services wherever it's available, routers and apps must be patched, and a director signs off the assessment. Missing multi-factor authentication is now an automatic fail.
How long does it take?
For most small organisations, a few weeks from first call to certificate. It depends on how much needs fixing first, and I'll give you a realistic date after the review.
Who issues the certificate?
Certificates are issued through IASME, the scheme's delivery partner for the National Cyber Security Centre, via a licensed certification body. My job is to get you ready so you pass first time.
